Year 3 (3KP) Miss Power

Here you will find a snapshot of our learning in Year 3!

World Book Day 2026

All dressed in our pyjamas and slippers, we had the best time celebrating World Book Day! From meeting author and illustrator Matt Hunt, who taught us how to draw a yeti, to completing the extreme reading challenge, where we tried to read in unusual places across the day, we thoroughly enjoyed spending lots of time reading good books with our friends. We also worked together to create our 'Book in a box' entry, ready to share with the rest of the school.

Teamwork!

As part of our learning in Jigsaw, we have been focussing on resilience and how to deal with challenges and disappointment. We have also discussed the importance of teamwork and how working together can help us achieve goals. To practice this, we were challenged in groups to design and create the funniest potato person. Within our groups, we had to create our design, decide our roles and then work together to complete the task.

Light and shadows

In Science, we have been busy investigating what causes shadows and how shadows can change. We have been using the words 'opaque', 'translucent' and 'transparent' within our observations and have explored how shadows created by the sun change over the course of the day.

Roman workshop

To consolidate and extend our learning in history about the Romans, we held a Roman workshop day. During the day we explored a wide range of Roman artefacts, played Roman games, wore clothing and armour similar to what would have been worn at the time and had a go at building structures as the Romans did. We also had the opportunity to 'see' Rome up close, through the use of VR headsets. It was a brilliant day and we loved every minute!

Exploring colour in Art

In Art, we have been learning how to create tints and shades of colours and also experimenting with different painting techniques. We applied our new skills to different pieces of art, including still-life painting, creating 3D effects and compositional pieces.

Snow day fun

An overnight snowfall proved to be lots of fun as we went outside building snowmen, rolling massive snowballs and chasing each other on the field!

Frindleswylde is coming ...

As we arrived at school, we were greeted by some unusual wintery changes in our classroom. After making predictions about who we thought Frindleswylde was, we soon discovered he was one of the main characters in our new class text.

Dreaming of the future

In English, we have been reading 'The Seed of Doubt' and thinking about our own wishes and dreams for the future. As we read more of the story, we thought about what we could do to motivate ourselves and others to not give up on their dreams, especially when faced with challenges. We wrote motivational speeches and leaflets to share with the younger children in school.

Christmas cookies!

As part of our DT unit on baking, we baked and decorated delicious biscuits for CCA's Christmas Fair! As part of our planning and preparation we tasted different biscuits and discussed what type of biscuits would appeal to our target audience - the children and families of CCA! We also designed and constructed our own biscuit boxes, as well as creating posters to advertise our tasty treats. Our biscuits were incredibly popular, with the KS2 biscuit stall being sold out in less than an hour!

Children in Need 2025

We had a truly 'spotacular' day supporting Children in Need! During the day, we found out how Children in Need supports children and their families across the UK, and also learnt about some of the incredible challenges people were taking part in.

Science in action

One of our Science topics this year is 'Forces and Magnets'. We had a great time exploring different forces and investigating the strength of a range of magnets.

Anti-bullying week 2025

As part of our whole school Anti-bullying week focus, we joined hundreds of schools across the country, and took part in Odd Socks Day. This was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate how we are all different and how amazing this is!

A walk round our local area

In Geography, we have been learning about settlements and the different features that might be found in rural and urban areas. We went for a walk round our local area, identifying human and physical features which we recorded on iPads and maps.

Stone Age art

In Art, we explored Stone Age art. To begin, we continued developing our sketching skills using pencils, before using charcoal to create artwork.

We then created our own version of a cave wall by glueing lentils, salt, and rice to a card background. Following this, we made our own paint by mixing flour and water to make a paste and then adding spices to colour the paint. We used these paints on our cave wall backgrounds and then added an animal painting on top.

A trip to the circus!

Roll up! Roll up! The circus came to Key Stage 2! To introduce our focus text 'Leon and the place between', we all received an invitation to the circus. We were wowed by acrobats and jugglers, enjoyed being entertained by the ringmaster and then had the opportunity to try different circus skills - juggling, tightrope walking and performing magic tricks.

TTRockstars!

To celebrate the launch of TT Rockstars for the new year, we all dressed up as rockstars for the day. We had a great time practising times tables with our friends and also spent time on the TTRS website challenging each other and also the teachers!

We are artists!

At the start of the year, we created these fantastic self-portraits of ourselves! We used mirrors to look closely at our facial features to complete our sketches and afterwards, we really enjoyed identifying who was who based off our drawings.
