Come and have a look at all the wonderful learning that happens in Year 1!

English

In English, we have focused on 'Toys in Space' by Mini Grey to inspire our writing.

The children received a very strange delivery of toys from outer space, which inspired lots of exciting writing activities.

Maths

In Maths, we have been focusing on place value to 20 and addition and subtraction within 20. 

 

​Science

In Science, we have been looking at 'Our Body' and 'Senses'. 

History 

In History, we have been investigating the question 'How have toys changed?' The children have enjoyed sharing our favourite toys from now and in the past. We have also enjoyed exploring the toys that our parents and grandparents played with. 

Across the Curriculum

At the beginning of Year 1, the classroom was set up in a way that felt familiar to the children, similar to Reception. Learning took place through a variety of activities around the classroom, which helped everyone settle into the new key stage. Children worked independently as well as in small groups with an adult.
