PSHE

Crabbs Cross Academy believes that it is an important part of our responsibility, alongside parents, to develop young people as valued members of society. Part of our core role is to help children develop the skills and attitudes need to achieve this so that as young people and adults they will achieve personal fulfilment in life.

PSHE + C education at Crabbs Cross Academy is embedded across the curriculum, making links with other relevant subjects to ensure consistency and continuity for our pupils.

In Key Stage 1 and 2, the teaching of Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship is based upon three ‘core themes’ within which there will be broad overlap and flexibility:

  1. Health and Wellbeing
  2. Relationships
  3. Living in the Wider World

Foundation stage

In the Foundation stage there are 3 Prime Areas of Learning.  PSED (Physical, Social, Emotional Development) is one of those Prime Areas and is central to teaching and learning across the Early Years curriculum.  Physical Development is another Prime Area of Learning and incorporates Health and Self-Care.

The aims for teaching in the Foundation Stage come from the Development Matters Guidance and the Early Learning Goals.  The three Early Learning Goals for PSED are:

  • Making relationships
  • Self-confidence and Awareness
  • Managing Feelings and Behaviour

The PSHE curriculum is very much embedded throughout all of the Foundation Stage activities (child led, adult led, or focus activities).
