School Meals
Hot Lunches
Crabbs Cross Academy provide hot meals supplied by The Vaynor First School. This fully complies with all government guidelines on providing a healthy school meal for each child.
Meals are ordered in advance from a pre-published menu and a sample menu is attached below to give you an idea of what is on offer. The meals are to be ordered, even if your child is in Reception or KS1, and for KS2 will need to be paid on the Thursday morning of the week before. If your child is absent, the meal will be credited. If you think your child is entitled to Free School Meals please ask for a form and the criteria at the school office.
Packed Lunches
Children may also bring their own packed lunches to school. We ask that these are brought in a suitable container and that parents take appropriate measures for food hygiene e.g. An ice pack in hot weather. Preferably drinks for lunch should be non sugary and in a plastic bottle. In the interests of health and safety we do ask that children do not bring in fizzy drinks, canned drinks and glass bottles. Nor should children bring any food containing nuts as some children are highly allergic to even the smell of nut products.
Only water should be drunk at other times of the day
Milk
Crabbs Cross Academy offers milk to all its pupils at a nominal cost per week; to children under the age of 5 it is free. It is also free for children in receipt of Free School Meals, but it will still need to be ordered.
The school is a healthy school, therefore we ask for parents support in providing packed lunches which contain some fruits/vegetables and are varied across the week. We also ask that they do not contain chocolate, sweets or excessive amounts of crisps and cakes.
Mid morning snacks are a welcome boost for children’s energy and brain power. Fruit is provided by the Government for all Reception and KS1 children. KS2 children may bring their own fresh or dried fruit and vegetables to eat at playtime.
